Vaseline (Vaselinum album) is a hydrophobic ointment base of mineral origin, consisting of a purified mixture of solid and liquid hydrocarbons. As the archetype of hydrophobic ointment bases, vaseline is characterized by a distinctly apolar nature and a strong occlusive effect.
