Cremor Cetomacrogolis is an ointment base formulated as an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion with a non-ionic emulsifying system. The cream is easily washable and contains an aqueous continuous phase.
Properties
The cream has a pH between 3 and 5, which can vary depending on the added substances. Due to the lack of buffering, the pH is flexible and adaptable. This property makes the base suitable for specific applications.
Therapeutic application
Suitable for processing pH-dependent active ingredients, particularly erythromycin.
When erythromycin (a basic substance) is added, the cream's pH rises to approximately 8, which promotes the optimal activity of this substance. In buffered cetomacrogol cream, this pH increase is not possible, which reduces its efficacy.
